What Information Can Court Staff Provide?

Clerk: "Which process servers? What should I say?"
A pro se customer files a complaint. The counter clerk explains the process of filing a complaint and the requirement that personal service be effected by someone other than the party herself. The pro se customer asks who can do that quickly.

Which of the following are allowable responses by the clerk?

1. The clerk refuses to give the litigant any information on process servers.
2. The clerk tells the customer in a confidential tone of voice that the sheriff could take weeks to get it done, and refers her to a retired sheriff who is now a private process server.
3. The clerk provides a complete list of all process servers in the area but offers no recommendations.
